How To Use A Bulb Syringe To Clear A Stuffy Nose

Oct. 08, 2018

Most new parents get a bulb syringe in their newborn kit from the hospital , and it generally works pretty well. So how should we use it?

Squeeze the air out of the bulb of the syringe to make a vacuum. Gradually release the bulb to suction mucus out. Remove the syringe and squeeze the bulb to expel the mucus to some tissue. Wipe the syringe and repeat the procedure for the other nostril.

If your baby is still congested following five to eight minutes, employ saline drops again and decrease. Don't suction your infant's nose over two or three times a day, however, you will irritate its lining. And don't utilize the saline drops for over four times in a row since over time they can dry out the interior of the nose and also make things worse.

Keep in mind that this is a gentle procedure. If you wind up suctioning overly harshly, the rectal tissues may get inflamed (or perhaps bleed), which may make the congestion worse. If your baby resists vigorously, let it go for a little while and try again later.
